During his 13 terms representing Tennessee's 6th congressional district, Gordon was responsible for passing vital legislation to support America’s competitiveness policies, including the landmark bipartisan America COMPETES Act, which fostered U.S. economic competitiveness by strengthening math and science education. He also led a successful effort to reauthorize the legislation in 2010, ensuring a long-term commitment to America’s technology leadership.
Chairman Gordon was a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and served on the Financial Services, Budget and Rules Committees. Through his leadership role in Congress, he brings a deep understanding of the forces shaping economic policy.
