Suzy Tichenor

Vice President, High Performance Computing Initiative

Suzy Tichenor joined the Council on Competitiveness as vice president in 2003 to direct its new initiative on high performance computing (HPC). This program is examining the barriers preventing the private sector from using this game-changing technology to drive innovation and productivity for industrial and national competitive gain, and creating public-private sector partnerships to address these barriers.

Tichenor serves as principal investigator for HPC-related grants from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and National Nuclear Security Administration and the National Science Foundation. In 2006, the Council’s HPC Initiative was awarded the Readers Choice Public Awareness award by HPC Wire, the leading Internet news and information site covering the high performance computing industry. Tichenor received the Reader’s Choice Community Recognition Award that same year.

Tichenor has more than 20 years of experience creating partnerships and programs at all levels of the government, private sector and not-for-profit organizations. A vice president with the Council from 1993-1997, she launched the first analyses of the economic impact of the converging telecommunications and computing infrastructures into a national information infrastructure at a time when the Internet was not widely used outside of academia. Previously, she held senior positions at Cray Research, a start-up health care firm and a national non-profit.
