The Changing Outlook for U.S. Energy, Washington, DC
September 24, 2012
Host: The Howard Baker Forum with the Council on Competitiveness
The U.S. needs a system that develops domestic energy resources—renewable, traditional or otherwise—along with efficiency efforts, to achieve energy security. Domestic energy may represent one of the most promising frontiers, and rising demand, rollercoaster prices and national security concerns all argue for domestic supplies. Energy is the lifeblood of our economy, and America’s competitiveness cannot be separated from issues surrounding energy—how efficiently we use it, how many millions we spend abroad for it and how well we steward it domestically. This forum will examine the evolving energy landscape, focusing on policies and strategies needed to fully assess our energy needs, leverage domestic energy resources, effectively improve energy efficiency and sustainably reduce energy consumption.
