Sens. Baucus, Lugar Join Council to Host Congressional Briefing on Workforce Skills

The Council on Competitiveness and Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) will convene a briefing on Capitol Hill to address how the United States can achieve a competitive advantage in the global skills race. The briefing will be held in conjunction with the release of the Council’s latest report, Thrive. The Skills Imperative, which calls for a national action agenda to bolster U.S. workforce skills and ensure a rising standard of living for all Americans.
Members of the Council’s advisory committee will also comment on the report, including Norman R. Augustine, retired chairman & CEO, Lockheed Martin Corporation; Judith F. Cardenas, president, Lansing Community College; Joel Leonard, founder, Skill TV; and James C. Spohrer, director of service research, IBM. Additional members of the Council’s advisory committee include industry, labor and academia leaders. The briefing is part of the Council’s new Compete 2.0 series that will examine the competitiveness challenges in the areas of workforce skills, manufacturing, financial services, health care and infrastructure.
