Council President, Select Members to Participate in 2008 National Summit on American Competitiveness

On May 22, Deborah L. Wince-Smith, president of the Council on Competitiveness, will participate in the 2008 National Summit on American Competitiveness hosted by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carols M. Gutierrez. The meeting will convene the nation’s premier leaders of business, government and academia on what steps the public and private sectors can take to secure America’s position as the most competitive economy.
Wince-Smith will serve on the opening panel, “Roadmap for the Next Decade,” which will be moderated by CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo. Council members participating in the summit include: Craig Barrett, chairman of the board, Intel; John Engler, president, National Association of Manufacturers; Robert Lane, CEO, Deer & Company; James W. Owns, chairman and CEO, Caterpillar; Jim Phillips, board officer, EmergeMemphis; and Carl J. Schramm, president and CEO, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
Additional participants include: Richard M. Daley, mayor, City of Chicago; Janet Napolitano, governor of Arizona; U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, Jr.; and Michael Porter, professor, Harvard Business School.
