The Council on Competitiveness Partners with Newsweek to Present the National Energy Summit & Intern

High-Level September Summit to Address Energy Competitiveness as the Key Driver of U.S. Prosperity

Washington, DC — The Council on Competitiveness has named Newsweek as the exclusive media partner for the 2009 National Energy Summit & International Dialogue. The Summit, focused on the theme "Driving Competitiveness through Sustainable Energy," will take place on September 23-24 in Washington, D.C. at the Mayflower Hotel.

Newsweek’s senior editors will moderate the Summit’s high-level dialogues featuring the leading global voices on energy competitiveness. The National Energy Summit & International Dialogue will convene an elite group of top corporate CEOs, senior U.S. and global government officials, university presidents, labor union leaders, and other dignitaries. These key participants will set out specific strategies for meeting U.S. energy and sustainability challenges on day one, and on day two outline private sector principles on climate change just weeks before the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

The conference coincides with Newsweek publishing the rankings of the top 100 greenest companies in the United States, which recognizes those corporations that are making an effort in their green practices and succeeding.  Newsweek Global Business Editor, Kathleen Deveny, and Council President Deborah Wince-Smith will lead a discussion at the Summit on the rankings and the role of sustainability in recognizing global competitive advantages.
