Council President Joins Heads of State at Competitiveness Forum
Deborah Wince-Smith Speaks With US, Foreign Leaders in Santiago

The Council on Competitiveness President Deborah Wince-Smith joined leaders from the U.S. and abroad for the Americas Competitiveness Forum III, September 29, in Santiago, Chile.
Distinguished speakers included the President of Guatemala Álvaro Colom, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke.
The discussion centered upon finding the appropriate tools to overcome the economic crisis. “At the bottom of this lies a crisis of politics,” said President Bachelet, “what the crisis teaches us is that we need a better State and a better market."
President Colom highlighted competitiveness issues as the key to jumpstarting the economy, "competitiveness is a sum of wills, such as decision, collaboration and productivity," he stated at the event.
