Council on Competitiveness Announces Chairman Bart Gordon as a Distinguished Fellow

The Council on Competitiveness announced House Science and Technology Committee Chairman Bart Gordon today as its newest Distinguished Fellow. Until his retirement in January, Chairman Gordon represented Tennessee’s sixth district for 26 years. He is currently a partner at K&L Gates in their Washington, D.C.-based public policy and law practice.
 
“Chairman Gordon’s expertise in science, technology and innovation policy is unmatched,” said Council President & CEO Deborah Wince-Smith. “We are privileged to welcome one of the great architects of America’s competitiveness agenda to our team.”
 
During his 13 terms in office, Chairman Gordon was responsible for passing vital legislation to support America’s competitiveness policies, including the landmark bipartisan America COMPETES Act, which fostered U.S. economic competitiveness by strengthening math and science education. He also led a successful effort to reauthorize the legislation in 2010, ensuring a long-term commitment to America’s technology leadership.
 
Chairman Gordon was a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and served on the Financial Services, Budget and Rules Committees. Through his leadership role in Congress, he brings a deep understanding of the forces shaping economic policy.

Chairman Gordon joins a prestigious group of distinguished fellows at the Council, including the Honorable Alexander “Andy” Karsner, former Assistant Secretary of Energy, and the former director of the Defense Advance Research Projects Agency Anthony J. Tether.
