Council CEO Analyzes Economic Recovery on PBS NewsHour

Wince-Smith Addresses Rise in Corporate Earnings and Stubborn Unemployment

May 10, 2011

Council on Competitiveness President and CEO Deborah Wince-Smith appeared on PBS NewsHour last week to address the future of the American economy and the jobs report released last Friday.

"We're seeing a tremendous success of U.S. corporations," Wince-Smith told program host Jeffrey Brown. "That is a good sign; it shows we are continuing to rebound from the recession. We are going to see increased productivity and standard of living that ultimately comes from this wealth generation."

Wince-Smith also stressed that America must look forward to capture new industries and jobs that are products of the fundamental shift in the global economy. "What we really need to be focused on is how do we have the education, the skills and the training so we can capitalize on our entrepreneurship, our innovation and our great research and development."
