Council Applauds President’s Announcement of Advanced Manufacturing Partnership
Leveraging American Leadership in Technology and Innovation is Key to Robust Economic Recovery
June 24, 2011
Washington, DC –
Deborah L. Wince-Smith, President & CEO of the Council on Competitiveness, released the following statement regarding President Obama’s speech today announcing an Advanced Manufacturing Partnership:
“The Council commends the President for his commitment to maintaining America’s manufacturing leadership through the Advance Manufacturing Partnership. Public-private collaboration that leverages our greatest strengths in technology and innovation, including our research universities and national laboratories, is an important component of any successful strategy to enhance American industry. Making smart investments with limited public sector resources is critical to creating the right environment for an American manufacturing renaissance that ensures economic growth and national security.
“We are pleased to see that the President embraced many of the Council’s recommendations to accelerate advanced manufacturing, including a focus on expanding the use of modeling and simulation technology to small and medium sized companies. The recognition of this tool’s importance is a tangible product of the Council’s continued engagement with the Administration and the private sector, including Proctor & Gamble, which will now make advanced software available to smaller firms at no cost.
“America’s ability to retain, attract and expand its manufacturing capacity must be among the country’s top priorities, and today’s announcement represents a strong foundation to address this challenge. The Council on Competitiveness will continue to work with the Administration to create an environment that enhances U.S. manufacturing and generates a new era of American prosperity.”
