Council on Competitiveness Member Jim Phillips, Chairman and CEO of Nanomech, Testifies before House Appropriations Subcommittee

March 28, 2012

The Council on Competitiveness is pleased to announce that Jim Phillips, Chairman and CEO of Nanomech, testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies at a hearing titled, “American Manufacturing and Job Repatriation” on March 28th at 9 AM EST. Phillips is a member of the Council’s U.S. Manufacturing Competitiveness and Technology Leadership and Strategy Initiatives.

Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA) chairs the subcommittee and asked Phillips to share his personal experience as the head of a manufacturing company, including the real world challenges and choices that one in that position faces. NanoMech creates high-value added jobs in Arkansas with a portfolio of advanced materials products that address nearly every sector of the economy. Nanomech’s technologies can restore significant competitive advantage to U.S. manufacturers across many critical sectors, including cutting tools, aerospace, and automobiles.

“I want to thank Chairman Wolf for holding a hearing on American manufacturing, a critical arena to maintaining and increasing America’s competitiveness in the global economy,” says Deborah Wince-Smith, President and CEO of the Council. “We are pleased that Chairman Wolf, Ranking Member Fattah and other Members of the Subcommittee will learn of this innovative company.”

“We must capitalize immediately on our great university system, our national labs, and tremendous agencies like the National Science Foundation, to be sure this unique and best in class innovation ecosystem, is organized in a way that supports the small- and medium-sized companies that power American innovation,” states Jim Phillips. “This will result in the creation of good jobs and will improve the quality of life and security for our fellow citizens.”
