WASHINGTON—Deborah L. Wince-Smith, president of the Council on Competitiveness, presented the findings of the Competitiveness Index: Where America Stands in Athens to a gathering of 200 U.S. and Greek business and government officials. The event was sponsored by the Greek National Council on Competitiveness and Development, The Federation of Greek Industries and The Greece-United States Business Council.
“To succeed in a hyper-competitive, fast-paced global economy, we cannot, nor should we want to, compete on low wages, commodity products, standard services, and routine science and technology development,” Wince-Smith said during the speech, which was held in the Old Parliament Building.
Remarks were also made by Greek Minister of Development Dimitris Sioufas, and Dr. Athanase Lavidas, secretary general of the Federation of Greek Industries, responsible for International Affairs, and chairman of the Greece-United States Business Council.
