Game Changers in Supply Chain Infrastructure: Are We Ready to Play?

Council partners with U.S. Department of Commerce, Department of Transportation to host Infrastructure Strategy Conference

WASHINGTON—The Council on Competitiveness, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, the Department of Transportation and the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center’s International Gateway will host a one-day conference Monday, May 11, 2009, to discuss domestic transportation infrastructure strategies.

This event will provide a forum for attendees to share ideas with the new administration about how domestic transportation infrastructure could be improved to be fully competitive in today’s global economy; how it could be financed and what role the public sector should play.

Invited keynote speakers and panelists include the secretaries of commerce and transportation, senior-level executives from the logistics and supply chain sectors and other private sector stakeholders. Invited executive branch and Congressional decision makers will hear perspectives on key issues for supply chain competitiveness and infrastructure development that should be considered in the administration’s economic recovery effort.

Outstanding national experts will lead five specialized breakout sessions:

  • National Freight Policy—Meeting Tomorrow’s Demands ?
  • IT’s Role in the Supply Chain Infrastructure ?
  • Competitive Impact of Safety and Security ?
  • Greening the Supply Chain: Challenges and Opportunities ?
  • Financing a Competitive Supply Chain Infrastructure

Participants are invited to offer their recommendations on what needs to be included in a national freight policy and discuss their concerns about specific “game changers,” or critical developments that could affect American economic recovery.
