Competitiveness Council tackles innovation strategy
Many top corporate technology executives, university leaders, labor officials, and entrepreneurs were in Washington DC last week to participate in two events held by the Council on Competitiveness (CoC).
On June 22 the council convened top public and private sector technology leaders to launch Compete: Technology, a new Technology Leadership & Strategy Initiative
(TLSI) focused on improving US leadership and competitiveness in technological innovation.
Among the participants was federal chief technology officer (CTO) Aneesh Chopra. His "involvement sends a strong signal that the Obama administration is committed to engaging the private sector in the crucial area of technology innovation," CoC president Deborah Wince-Smith said.
Led by Lockheed Martin senior vice president & CTO Ray Johnson and GE senior vice president & GE Global Research director Mark Little, a group of about 25 CTOs and national high-tech leaders will identify strategies to "disperse r&d across the globe, overcome obstacles to technological development, and achieve effective publicprivate sector collaboration" to boost the US technological competitive advantage.
On June 23, CoC and Seed magazine held a one-day State of Innovation Summit that assembled hundreds of the nation’s innovators and s&t leaders to examine US innovation and help develop tools and strategies for the future. DuPont chairman Chad Holliday and Smithsonian Secretary Wayne Clough led the deliberations on innovation and design.
