Brazilian Development Bank Pledges Support for Council’s Innovation Summit

July 12, 2010

Last week, the Council on Competitiveness hosted a meeting with leadership from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) to discuss greater opportunities for collaboration and engagement in the upcoming 2nd U.S.-Brazil Innovation Summit, to be hosted by the Council in September.

In attendance was a delegation from BNDES, led by its president, Luciano Coutinho, and representatives from the Embassy of Brazil.  BNDES is the main financing agent for domestic development and plays a fundamental role in stimulating the expansion of industry and infrastructure in Brazil. They work closely with key domestic partners, including the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), who is partnering with the Council along with the Brazilian Competitiveness Movement (MBC) and Georgetown University for the Summit.

BNDES will continue to provide a strong leadership role after the Summit in the advancement of the U.S.-Brazil innovation partnership that has been fostered by the Council, ABDI and MBC to create the next generation of Innovation Learning Labs that will continue to boost innovation capacity and value creation in both nations.
